Top Stocks to Watch Today: Tuesday, May 25

A few big biotech winners are on the list of top stocks to watch today…

Plus, tech, cyclical, and aerospace stocks are joining the party.

The major indexes were all green yesterday. That helped push stocks higher. But nothing replaces a good old stock catalyst to drive price action.

That’s why I focus on big percent gainers with news and volume. Those are the plays that work best for me.

I trade safely and I’m not being aggressive in this market. Sometimes that means I underestimate stocks. I almost always sell too soon. But taking small gains keeps me disciplined so my small gains can add up in any kind of market.

Here are the top 10 stocks to watch today … I’ll show you what’s on my radar and why…

10 Stocks to Watch for Tuesday, May 25, 2021

Remember, this is a watchlist, not a ‘must trade’ list. I’m not always right, and I don’t trade everything I watch. That’s why you should never blindly follow or buy anyone’s stock picks — even mine.

But there’s always something you can learn.

Watch out for patterns that fit your strategy. Always have a trading plan for every trade. Here are some resources to help you get started:

If you’ve been following my blog and lessons, you know I love to trade low-priced stocks. (To learn more about trading penny stocks, get my FREE guide here.)

The stocks on this list aren’t penny stocks. Even if I rarely trade higher-priced stocks, their movements can still affect stocks within my price range. So to me, they’re worth watching.

If you want to know which penny stocks I’m watching…

Now, here are 10 top stocks to watch today…

Stocks to Watch Today #1: PDS Biotechnology Corporation (NASDAQ: PDSB)

PDSB is a biotech company that develops cancer immunotherapies.

It was on Friday’s watchlist after it broke out and made new 52-week highs. It was on watch for continued upside after the announcement that Julius Strauss, MD, from the National Cancer Institute would present Phase 2 trial data at the upcoming American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) conference.

It’s now a multi-day runner. But it could be getting overextended. Traders can watch for a first red day and a dip-buy opportunity.

(Past performance is not indicative of future returns.)

Stocks to Watch Today #2: CLPS Incorporation (NASDAQ: CLPS)

CLPS is a Chinese tech company in the banking and insurance sectors.

Yesterday it announced a cooperation agreement with another company to “develop a next generation loan trading software and to explore global financial technology services market.”

Read the full press release here.

The stock gapped up and spiked but couldn’t hold its gains. Traders can watch for a morning panic dip-buy opportunity.

Stocks to Watch Today #3: New Found Gold Corp. (OTCPK: NFGFF)

NFGFF is a Canadian gold exploration company.

On Friday it had a multi-day breakout over $8.15 after announcing drilling results. Yesterday it continued higher.

This stock trades lower volume so watch your position size if you trade it. Traders can watch for a dip-buy opportunity into a big panic.

Stocks to Watch Today #4: Roblox Corporation (NYSE: RBLX)

RBLX is a recent gaming IPO. Yesterday it broke out to new all-time highs on higher than average volume.

There’s no recent news about the company. But new highs can be a catalyst on their own. Traders can watch for potential continued upside.

Stocks to Watch Today #5: Samsara Luggage, Inc. (OTCPK: SAML)

SAML is a luggage company. It reported first-quarter earnings on May 17.

After earnings, it gapped up but then traded lower for two days. Then it spiked and ran for multiple days.

Back in March, the company did a massive 1:7,000 reverse stock split. Now its float is less than one million shares. It could have a volatile move. Traders can watch for a morning panic dip-buy opportunity.

Stocks to Watch Today #6: Virgin Galactic Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: SPCE)

Virgin Galactic Holdings, Inc. is an aerospace company developing crafts for human spaceflight.

Yesterday the stock had a huge gap up after a successful test flight over the weekend. An analyst upgraded their price target to $27 after the successful flight.

Traders can watch for potential continued upside.

Stocks to Watch Today #7: ThredUp Inc. (NASDAQ: TDUP)

TDUP is a consumer cyclical stock that operates a platform for customers to buy and sell used clothing.

It’s another recent IPO, and it’s slowly trending back toward its all-time high around $31.50. Traders can watch for potential continuation higher. But ideally, it’ll have a news catalyst.

Stocks to Watch Today #8: Veritiv Corporation (NYSE: VRTV)

VRTV is a packaging company in the industrial sector.

Yesterday it made new 52-week highs after announcing it’s increasing its stock buyback program. The original buyback program was for $50 million in spending. The company just doubled it.

CEO Sal Abbate said, “Having already repurchased nearly $29 million of shares this year, management and our Board of Directors believe the timing is right to expand the program. We continue to believe the repurchase of our stock is the best use of capital at this time.”

Read the full press release here.

The stock already has a low float of roughly 10 million shares. And the company buying could push the stock higher. Traders can watch for more potential upside.

Stocks to Watch Today #9: Scopus BioPharma Inc. (NASDAQ: SCPS)

SCPS is a biotech company that’s developing immuno-oncology gene therapy for cancer.

Yesterday the company announced the FDA approved its investigational new drug application.

Read the full press release here.

It’s another low float stock with roughly eight million shares. The stock spiked yesterday morning and had a massive short squeeze.

It was halted multiple times as it climbed from $5.75 to almost $20. I wouldn’t chase it. Traders can watch for a dip buy opportunity. Ideally into a big panic.

Stocks to Watch Today #10: Obalon Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ: OBLN)

OBLN is a medical device company focused on developing solutions for obesity.

The company will hold a special meeting this morning at 8:30 a.m. Pacific for shareholders to vote on the proposed merger with ReShape Lifesciences Inc.

The stock has a potential multi-day breakout level set around $4.80. Traders can watch for a reaction to the voting results.

Frequently Asked Questions About Stocks to Watch Today

What Are the Best Stocks to Trade as a Beginner?

My favorite stocks to trade are penny stocks. I think they’re a great way for beginners to learn the trading process with a small account.

Can You Get Rich Trading Stocks?

Don’t come into trading with a get-rich-quick mindset. Trading is a marathon, not a sprint. It can be a lucrative career but it takes years of hard work and dedication to learn the nuances of the market — which is what I teach.

How Much Money Do You Need To Start Trading Stocks?

Only start trading with money you can afford to lose. You can start small. In fact, I teach traders to focus on education first to learn the process, then slowly scale up over time.

Is Trading Stocks Risky?

All trading is risky. No trader is right 100% of the time. That’s why I keep my losses small by cutting losses quickly.
