Amy Coney Barnett Sworn In as Supreme Court Justice

On Monday night, Amy Coney Barrett took her first of two oaths as a U.S. Supreme Court Justice after the Senate voted to confirm her nomination. The U.S. Senate voted 52 to 48 confirming Judge Barrett to the Supreme Court.

Amy Coney Barrett promised to do her job without any fear or favor. She also promised to not let political biases get in the way of her work. She conveyed her love for the Constitution and vowed to devote her time to preserving it.

President Trump spoke highly of Barrett during the oath-taking ceremony. He believes that newly appointed, Justice Barrett will issue rulings based solely on the law and Consitution.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), who originally thought there shouldn’t be a Supreme Court nomination so close to the election, announced that she would be voting in favor of Barrett’s confirmation.

Barrett’s confirmation makes her the first woman to be appointed to Supreme Court Justice without receiving any votes from a minority party. She is now the fifth woman to be a Supreme Court Justice.

Barrett replaces Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died last month, despite Ginsburg’s wish to “not be replaced until a new president is installed.”
